an adam levine appreciation post

the voice is totally making me worship this man. and moves like jagger is catchy as fuck (while also being an annoying earworm of a song). but adam levine man! the man is so earnest. he hides it under the adam levine-ness of his whole charmer act. the wink. the smile. *swoon* but these battle rounds, he's all business while really really appreciating the people on his team. you know he means what he says. this man would not lie to you. he's got the face going for him. it's a face you can believe. look at this face.

what i like about music #4: pinkerton

this album is like that scene in almost famous: "I'm flying high over Tupelo, Mississippi...with America's hottest band...and we're all about to die." them yelling truths at each other. dirty little deep down dark secrets that must be revealed in the last moments of your life. he's yelling his secrets at the universe for all to hear, real loud and unafraid because soon he will be dead and not around to see the fallout or feel the embarrassment. things that must be said before the end. these are the things you do not say:

…And I don't wanna be an old man anymore
It's been a year or two since I was out on the floor
Shakin' booty, makin' sweet love all the night
It's time I got back to the Good Life
It's time i got back, it's time i got back
and I don't even know how I got off the track
I wanna go back…Yeah!

pinkerton twitter lols

They don't make stationery like this where I'm from
So fragile, so refined
So I sniff and I lick your envelope
And fall to little pieces every time
I wonder what clothes you wear to school
I wonder how you decorate your room
I wonder how you touch yourself
And curse myself for being across the sea

I'm a lot like you so please
Hello, I'm here, I'm waiting
I think I'd be good for you
And you'd be good for me

saying grace

when life is shit/in my emo moments i usually reach for hanson/vampire weekend/phish or elliott smith/the smiths for a good ol' wallow in the muck and hopelessness that is life. but today i find myself watching geeks doing their geek thing. this is the best type of conversation. there are lols. there are serious, well reasoned discussions which are nowhere near the bickering mess of hate that is youtube comments/imdb forums. there is joy. this is everything. and i thank you topher grace. i/we may never see Star Wars: Episode III.5: The Editor Strikes Back but today, this is enough. that'll do topher, that'll do. consider spiderman 3 forgotten. done.

to know or not to know

the woman in black was pretty much ruined by all the knowing. the audience knows when the ghost appears before daniel radcliffe does because there she is behind him. on cue. dramatic music. it's like dora the explorer almost. harry should be asking us if we can see her and we'd yell: "behind you harry! behind you!" and he doesnt even teach us spanish. but apart from the movie i am now in general quite a dan rad fan* (except he doesnt do any acting in this). [ps. it was still quite scary because i jump at loud noises. the ghost screams a lot.]

however the hunger games (catching fire and mockingjay as well) completely profits from all the knowing/not knowing as the case may be. because we know exactly what katniss knows, when katniss knows it. when katniss is surprised, we're really truly surprised because katniss doesnt see it coming. all the clues were there but she doesnt put it together and as katniss we (or i - the person who was actually surprised that one time the surprise birthday party happened...) are truly blindsided. i say no more, this way lies spoilers. read them!

*he can sing! i have hopes of him someday singing something from the musicals. that would be awesome.

backup shapeup

my laptop went mad randomly and illustrator kept crashing. so now i'm backing everything up (6 cds so far, 5.17 gb worth of music to go as well as movies and shows). the order in which i'm doing it says a lot about my life priorities i think:
  1. photos (memories/nostalgia)
  2. random illustrator files, work files, videos (shit created by me)
  3. music
  4. movies/shows
sometimes it's like if there are no photos it didnt really happen, there's so much i forget entirely. then i find a photo of it. and still dont remember sometimes. but there's a photo, it must be so. *shrug*

this was what the whole of episode 04 of analyse phish was like. summary: harris gets high out of his mind and cant remember most of what happened during the concert. but they had a recording device with them and he can hear/relive the things he said and did. he's mostly mortified and "what am i saying?!"-ish. and scott still doesnt like phish. entertaining as fuck.

other things i did today:
  1. watched you again and she's out of my league
  2. baked chocolate cookies - baking powder does in fact expire. it refused to blend and formed into white clumps which i had to pick out of the dough.
  3. read another short story from patrick gale's dangerous pleasures. this one was called old boys. one of the hottest things i have ever read probably. so good.
listening to: prince!

the bong connection
      sex and the city 2
the descendants
midnight in paris
      melancholia
one day
red state
      drive
horrible bosses

ceremony

the ides of march

from worst to best
11. sex and the city 2 - i have nothing to say. i was bored. i knew what i was getting myself into :|
10. melancholia - arty, slow-moving, crapola.
9. drive - this is mostly a case of disappointment. i was expecting crazy, stupid, love. gosling (crazy cool! music plays! he wears suits! and he's funny.) and got creepy, silent, violent gosling instead.
8. the descendants - so dull. no moments stand out. none. has everyone gone mad? why the raving? why the oscar noms? o0
7. one day - sappy romance (usually i love!) ruined by the stupid ending.
6. horrible bosses - funny.
5. ceremony - lee pace!
4. the ides of march - solid.

3. the bong connection - suprisingly good. good acting. good bong music. and the best part. the accents were right. not some simpsons thing that the american actors they managed to find put on. must endeavour to watch it from the beginning. missed all the bits where grandfather aka. soumitra chatterjee (my love!) was actually alive. extra cool because the main character's name is apu.

apu and rita

2. midnight in paris - woody allen doing his thing. it works :)
1. red state - OMG. watch it. watch it now. it will blow your mind.

Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality

in a red state of mind. watched it yesterday, but have been listening to the red state of the union podcast (the episodes with each of the 3 boys and the kerry bishé one). there's something magic about michael angarano that makes people want to repeat over and over what an amazing actor he is. they all do it. and it's not really his movie. but you remember him. like in almost famous. there is no movie without "man, hey man, you take care of her man" (i paraphrase, to be accurate it is: “Hey, man! Take good care of her in San Francisco! …Man!”).

i think red state is the reason i did not love drive as much as other people seem to. although i watched red state after drive, that is the sort of acting that i am into. what these people do with kevin smith's words... and you can pause and imagine kevin smith saying the words. and go teehee how awesome that he fucking wrote (edited and directed) this! i am so excited for hit somebody. cannot wait.

and i love ryan gosling (usually)...but in drive he wasn't a person. he wasn't real. why doesn't he like it when people talk to him? why does he like carey mulligan? why does he have that creepy ass blue tile in his kitchen?

but kerry bishé, i know why she's the crazy religious nut she is. who also wants to save the "babies". she is so good! (i am in love with kerry bishé now) and i liked marc blucas popping up an agent. he's the ultimate police/military person. he is that. he's the good little soldier. ever since he was riley finn :)

riley in buffy - i wasnt a fan (team spike all the way!). in the comic - i'm starting to like him. ish. maybe. marc blucas - i like. i like seeing him in a non buffy context and thinking to myself "oh hello there, riley finn!"

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

let me ponder the ways in which i might be driven to the strange side by being stuck in a bad work/life scenario. there are 3 options: mental, alcoholic or dead. it would have to be a case when things get bad and stay bad so all sense of possible escape is lost.

mental
my hypothetical imaginings: this is the resigned to my fate state of mind. where you want to say fuck this shit but cant. headaches will turn into babbling, black-outs (loss of time) and eventually a nice bed in white room being asked if i can remember my name...

alcoholic
wherein i do say to myself fuck this shit. and start taking a hip flask into meetings. full on captain haddock it. pour shots for the entire conference table from my "kit" - complete with actual shot glasses.

dead
just quietly conk off one day. found dead slumped over a table where it looks like a simple headdesk but actually it's the final destination.

of the 3 (if ever the badness takes over) alcoholism is the by far the likeliest.
